3 Must Visit Sites in Berlin

What a whirlwind! I traveled to Berlin with my Business Strategy class, and we spent three days in the city. We didn’t have very much free time because it was mainly for school, but here are some of my highlights!

  • We ate lunch at the top of the Reichstag building, which gave us an incredible view. Bonus: the food was delicious!

  • We visited Checkpoint Charlie, the crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War, which was fascinating to see in person.

  • Right next to Checkpoint Charlie is part of the Berlin Wall and a small exhibit. It gave background information on those who tired to escape by climbing over the wall.

  • Then we walked through the Holocaust Memorial. This was by far my favorite stop, and the exhibition was like nothing I have ever experienced before.

Berlin has a very intense history and one that is unavoidable when visiting. I want to go back because I think there is so much more for me to see and learn.

Let me know if you have ever been to Berlin and your must see spots!

Falling in Love with Barcelona

Barcelona reminds me of summer. Everyone I met was so warm and friendly and there is an undertone of excitement in the air. I loved just wandering the streets with my friend/ amazing tour guide Theresa, and taking in the incredible smells, colors and people. I stayed at the Garden Factory Hostel, which was located in the center of the city and was walking distance to nearly everything.

Check out some of my must see spots:

  • One of my favorite places was St. Joseph’s Market. It’s a very popular market, and was filled with the hustle and bustle of morning shoppers. They had an incredible array of food and a very impressive treats section.

  • I took a beautiful walk down Ramblas De Canaletes. Here we ran into many human statues- a skill which I find extremely impressive.

  • Parc Guell was incredible. We simply walked around and admired the view, gardens, and buildings in the area.

  • Anella Olimpica is located on the hill of Montjuic and was the main sporting area for the Olympic games in 1992. We went on a weekday when there wasn’t a soul in sight, and we were just in time for the sunset. To put it simply- it was breath taking.

  • Barcelona definitely puts New York City’s “The City that Never Sleeps” saying to shame. Dinner starts at 9pm and the partying…well it never stops.

My stay in Barcelona ended all too quickly. I fell in love with the city and the people. My biggest regret in life to date…not taking Spanish in high school.

A Lovely Street Near Rosenborg Castle Gardens

From its colorful buildings to fashionable inhabitants it is definitely an underrated gem. One of the only things I knew about the country when coming here is that the Acapella World Championships were hosted here in Pitch Perfect 2. I know, I know… the Danes must be awesome right?!

Well here are some things I have learned about Danish culture so far:

  • Like most European countries men and women dress very fashionably, but boy do the Danes love their black, white, and grey color palette!
  • Danes are not very chatty. They will not strike up a conversation on the train with a stranger, and they value their space. Danes have even gone so far as to create their own system of movements and grunts to inform others of their presence or their intention to move. But don’t be fooled by their cold exterior, they are all quite lovely and helpful.
  • They leave their babies outside. Yes, even in the snow. Have you ever heard of the woman who left her baby outside of a store in New York and got arrested…she was a Dane.
  • Everyone bikes! This is one of my favorite parts about Denmark. It is super safe because there are clear bike lanes and drivers are very aware of bikers. I bike and take the train to school every morning, and I don’t think I have ever enjoyed a commute more!
